Web design in Philadelphia, built from scratch

Letter Box Digital builds bespoke websites for businesses in Philadelphia and beyond. No themes, no plugins and no site left alone after launch.

The short version

  • Every site is built from scratch on Flask, PostgreSQL and Google Cloud. Nothing is on the page unless your business needs it there.
  • Pages are structured for the way people find things now: search, AI answers and the referral who looks you up before calling.
  • You hold working wireframes before anything is final, then write the copy in your own voice.
  • Launch is the start. We maintain what we build, and a maintained site is the one that keeps getting found.

What a website has to do now

A business website has three jobs, and most sites only do the first one. It confirms you are real when a referral looks you up. It gets found by a stranger who searched a question you can answer. And it keeps working, month after month, so both of those keep happening.

The first job is the floor. Pew’s 2025 numbers put Instagram in front of half of US adults, which means a business that lives on a feed writes off the other half. A site on a domain you own reaches everyone, signed in or not.

The second job is where the upside lives. Sixty percent of US adults now read AI summaries in their search results, per Pew, and those systems cite pages that answer specific questions in a form a machine can parse. That is a design decision, and we make it on every page.

How we build it

From scratch, every time. We build on Flask, PostgreSQL and Google Cloud, the same tools behind some of the largest products on the planet, and we explain why in plain language. There is no theme underneath and no plugin waiting to break. Each page exists because it has a job.

Design settles first. We send HTML wireframes you can open on your phone and scroll, so you feel the site before it exists. Once the structure holds, you get a copy file built to match it and write the words in your own voice, with whatever AI tool you already use. We load them in as written. The whole process is on how we work.

The site you get is fast because there is nothing extra in it, and easy to change because we own every line. A new page type takes days.

Built to be found

Getting found has five parts, and only one of them is the technical scorecard. A healthy site, pages that answer real questions, proof the business is alive, a reputation beyond your own domain and a structure machines can read. The five pillars article walks through each.

We build the first and the fifth into the site itself. We write the second with you. The third is maintenance, below. The fourth is yours, and we tell you which citations and profiles matter for a Philadelphia business.

Then comes patience. A new domain takes quarters to get found on the terms worth having, and anyone promising faster is selling something. We tell you which numbers to watch while it happens.

Then we keep it alive

Most business sites go quiet after launch. Menus drift, phone numbers change, dates age and search engines notice. Staying visibly alive is a pillar of its own, and it is the one owners skip.

So we stay on. The clearest example is a Philadelphia real estate site with nine neighborhood market pages rebuilt every month with that month’s numbers. On a template that is a slog. Here it is a data change and a deploy, because we designed the pages around the monthly cycle on day one.

What it costs

We quote a fixed price per project after one conversation. Behavior drives the number. A site that has to do something specific costs more than a site that has to say something well. There are no handoffs to pay for, because the person who designs your site builds it.

Questions people ask

Do you only work with businesses in Philadelphia?

No. We are based in Philadelphia and build for businesses anywhere. The process runs on shared working files and prototypes you open in a browser, so distance never slows it down.

How long does a website take?

It depends on how much the site has to do. A business site with a handful of pages moves in weeks. A site with data pages or an embedded tool takes longer. We tell you which one you have after the first conversation, with a fixed price.

Can you fix or rebuild my existing site?

Yes. We start by reading the site the way a stranger and a search engine would, then tell you plainly whether it needs fixing or replacing. Sometimes the honest answer is a smaller job than you expected.

Will I be able to change it myself?

The words are yours to change, because copy lives in plain files. Structural changes go through us and usually take days, not a rebuild, because every line of the site is ours to edit.

Do you do SEO?

It is built into every site: clean structure, fast pages, real answers on the page and the files AI systems read. Then the ongoing work, which is maintenance, patience and watching the numbers. We do not sell rankings, and neither should anyone else.
